Re: 1) Apple MacBook Pro 17″ notebook computer
Model: A1297 (Late-2011); EMC 2564;
MacBook Pro 8.3
Configuration (2.4 Ghz Core i7 2760QM, 4. Gb 1333 Mhz DDR3 RAM Radeon HD 6770M 1024 Mb DDR 5 and Intel HD 3000 graphics controllers 500 Gb 7,200 rpm 2.5″ SATA HDD, DVD optical drive)
Serial No: XYz123ABC
Claim Number: XXXXXX
I have looked over the device and found that it sustained damages as a result of an electrical surge or spike (most likely caused by lightning strikes) gravely destroying its essential electronic components within the device, particular, the logicboard (the name used for the motherboard, also known as “main-board” in Apple Mac devices) which comprises the video/graphics subsystem), HDMI, Ethernet and USB ports which will stop the notebook computer from getting startedor turned on, and will perform in the manner it was designed to work. A functioning motherboard is essential for the proper operation of all computers. This component is not able to be repaired but will require replacement.computer insurance claim report.
Additional testing of the device and its specific components has revealed additional problems with the device, including that of the 17.0 inch (1920 1200×2020) Display panel with LED technology (and the data video cable) as well as the circuit board for the display panel and ZIF connectors. This component is going to require replacement since it is unable to register the signal of a display and display the images displayed on the screen even under the most basic testing conditions, and thus is unusable. The display panel will have to be replaced. It can’t be turned on or started (or switched on) therefore, it is not possible to display any image in the display.
The effects of power surges and spikes are extremely dangerous for electronic devices and components generally. The most common cause is the malfunction on the motherboard (which comprises components like the RAM and CPU as well as and GPUvideo/graphics sub-system) in a way that prevents the notebook computer from being able to turn on and perform (and function) according to the specifications that it was originally designed to. Even if initial test results had shown the issue to be less serious the motherboard its most critical sub-components will fail within the next few months. This will result in the system being unable to be powered on or powered off and may also cause data loss.
Repairing this machine is only feasible by replacing the current circuit board. This is the most costly component to replace, and is the most difficult component to find. The replacement part is likely to be a refurbished product and is not always guaranteed to function fully. If it is an used or reconditioned part its life expectancy is likely to be the span of a few weeks or months. Also, such a component cannot be assured to be readily accessible. Most of the time, these parts need to be procured either from North America or Europe adding the time and cost required.
The two 2GB RAM DIMMs, also known as memory modules that are connected by means of slots on the logicboard They were also found to be defective and may need replacement.
The 500 GB 2.5 inch hard disk drive was examined and verified to be working and the data stored on the hard drive were accessible. This drive houses an operating system as well as applications , and the system recovery files. While it is serviceable, it is not guaranteed for the short term. While it is functional, it is strongly recommended to replace this product, as contact with liquids or water can cause failure. This is why the entire user’s data must be extracted from the hard drive and transferred onto the external drive. This is a crucial component, and I believe it should be replaced.
Tests have revealed that the Li-ion battery made of polymer is not serviceable since it is no longer able to allow the recharging process or hold charge that is its primary function. It is also caused by electro-magnetic damage.
802.11 wireless network card was also tested, and while this component appears repairable, the tests revealed the performance and stability to be inconsistent and below the specifications . Also, it is strongly advised that this component be replaced because its reliability even in the short term can not be assured and cannot be retro-fitted and used in any kind of repair.
It is not possible to test the trackpad, keyboard (which comprises the entire upper body) as well as the trackpad were able to be tested, as they both require a connecting to an able-to-service logic board in order to test their repairability. Each has a printed circuit board , which could have suffered some damage and, if that’s the case, then they will require replacement. At this point, the damage isn’t possible without a functioning logicboard. *
At this point there were no other components discovered to be defective, however it is impossible to determine this until both the keyboard and logicboard are repaired and the computer is was restored to functional.
It is a MacBook Pro notebook computer is an upgraded design. It’s the last of the 17-inch models, and all production is now over. There is no replacement stock for the 17-inch model is expected to remain in the inventory. The inside layout of this model is different from the latest models in certain areas of the model’s design.
The most recent version of this version’s “replacement” in the Apple Mac range is the 15-inch MacBook Pro model. It has the same specs and is available (new) on the Apple online store for $3500. The price is comparable to the cost of purchasing the 17-inch MacBook Pro in 2011.
My opinion is that any repairs made will not be economically viable and may not be feasible due to the lack of logicboards and motherboards that can be replaced. If they are available, most likely to be a secondhand or reconditioned product the reliability and continued service can’t be assured. If parts are readily available however, repairs are estimated to cost: estimated cost of repairs will be the following:
The Logic Boardor motherboard | $ xx.xx | Used/ refurbished |
2 x DDR3 RAM modules | $ xx.xx | New |
17.0″ 1920 x 1200 TFT Display panel & LVDS display cable | $ xx.xx | New/ refurbished |
Wireless network card | $ xx.xx | New / refurbished |
Li-ion Battery | $ xx.xx | New/ refurbished |
500 Gb SATA HDD | $ xx.xx | New |
Freight (Priority Air) | $ xx.xx | Parts are delivered directly from United States/ Europe |
Labour | $ xx.xx | Installation & Testing (4 hours @$125/hr) |
Total | $ xxxx.xx | |
It is possible to add this feature (if needed) however strongly suggested | ||
Trackpad | $ xx.xx | New/ refurbished |
Upper Case Assembly with Backlit keyboard | $ xx.xx | New/ refurbished |
The cost of labor and parts for placement, and the potential time needed to procure the majority of these components from abroad in addition to the fact that almost every component of this laptop will need to be replaced, it is my suggestion for this laptop to should not be fixed because it is expensive and impossible to attempt to repair it.
I strongly suggest that the computer should not be “repaired” and should be replaced.
